Chemical & Biological Analysis

In the development of a waste management strategy all of the waste disposal options need to be investigated, particularly for any residual material remaining after recyclables have been recovered. The chemical and calorific profile of a waste is fundamental when considering alternative waste disposal routes such as energy recovery facility, pyrolysis and composting.  Biodegradability testing is now becoming increasingly important as the targets for LATS are becoming ever more demanding. To assist our clients to assess the viability and effectiveness of the disposal route chosen Waste Research Limited offer a number of different analyses:

  • A typical ‘combustion suite’ analysis will provide information on the percentage content of C, H, O, N, S, Cl, ash, moisture as well as giving a calorific value. Analysis for other elements such as heavy metals, or compounds such as dioxins is available.

  • Fuel and ROCs testing as specified in the draft standards produced by European technical committee CEN/TC 343 for solid recovered fuels, including the determination of biomass by selective dissolution.

  • The complete suite of compost testing as specified in PAS100:2005

  • The tests as specified in the Environment Agency produced “Guidance for Monitoring MBT and other pre treatment processes for the landfill allowances scheme (England and Wales)” including the biodegradability testing BM100 and DR4
