Compositional Analysis 

Waste Research Limited specialise in the analysis of domestic, industrial and commercial waste streams.  We provide our clients with accurate information on the constituents of the waste materials that they are handling.  Once armed with a reliable waste profile our clients are in a strong position to plan and monitor their waste handling activities.

Waste streams can be characterised by material type dependant on specific customer requirements, we will provide appropriate levels of detail to suit the needs of each client. For example, completed projects included the following specifications:

• Quantifying the recyclable content of waste.
• Quantifying the BMW content of waste.
• Calculating the calorific value of waste from composition.
• Detailed analysis of packaging materials in waste.
• Analysis of the glass content of waste from licensed properties. 
• Measurement of the different types of wood arising at Civic Amenity sites.
• Characterisation of household waste using 79 material sub-categories as part of a National survey.

We provide our clients with a professional and reliable service from inception of a project through to submission of the final report.  This will include designing a sample plan to meet the needs of the client, undertake the sampling, transportation of waste to our test centre in Sheffield, compositional analysis of the collected materials and producing a report.

The 13 basic material categories for household waste analysis are; Paper & Card, Plastic Film, Dense Plastics, Textiles, Glass, Ferrous Metal, Non-ferrous Metal, Miscellaneous Combustible Material, Miscellaneous Non-combustible Material, Putrescible Matter, WEEE, HHW material and Fines (-10mm).  On material with a particle size greater than 50mm we would also sort the material to further sub categories to suit the needs of the client.

Compositional analysis can be undertaken on any type of waste stream, in the past we have analysed; Industrial and Commercial (I&C) waste being delivered to a landfill site or a MRF.  Household waste and materials arising at a CA site - we can collect all kerbside streams and undertake surveys and compositional analysis at CA sites.  We can also undertake compositional analysis on waste pre and post treatment i.e. the input material to a plant, the fines fraction and the oversize fraction after processing.
